Ondo Crash: NAF, Navy Divers Recover More Wreckage During Search

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Nigerian Navy and Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) have recovered additional components from the wreckage of a crashed NAF ATR 42-500 aircraft in Igbokoda, Ondo State, as underwater search and recovery operations continue.

The recovery effort is being supported by hydrographic surveys, satellite-based search-and-rescue imagery, mud excavation and the pumping out of excess water to enable specialist teams to access areas where relevant aircraft components may be located.

The NAF disclosed this on Wednesday, saying specialist divers from the Nigerian Navy and NSIB were sustaining operations at the crash site to locate and retrieve materials needed for the ongoing investigation.

According to the Air Force, the multi-agency teams have continued working day and night to recover aircraft components for documentation and preservation.

“Working tirelessly, day and night, the multi-agency teams are maintaining sustained efforts, and supported by hydrographic surveys, satellite-based search-and-rescue imagery,” the NAF said.

The military said additional components had been recovered, while search operations were continuing to locate other relevant materials that could help investigators establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The recovered components are expected to be documented and preserved as part of the investigation into the accident.

The ATR 42-500 aircraft crashed in Igbokoda, Ondo State, on October 5, 2026, prompting a coordinated recovery operation involving the Air Force, Navy and NSIB.

The ongoing operation is aimed at retrieving relevant wreckage and materials from the crash site to support the investigation.
