THE WHISTLER’s Kasarahchi Aniagolu Wins UK MEET Fellowship

Kasarahchi Aniagolu, a data and security reporter with THE WHISTLER, has been selected for the 2026 UK Media Excellence for Emerging Technologies (UK MEET) Fellowship after a competitive process that attracted more than 500 applications from journalists and content creators across Nigeria and Ghana.
Aniagolu is among the 13 per cent of applicants accepted into the fellowship, delivered by Imperial College London through Imperial Global Ghana, with support from the British High Commission.
In her acceptance letter, the organisers said her reporting record, perspective and proposed story idea stood out during the selection process.
“Your application stood out for its track record of reporting, a clear point of view, and a pitch with a question worth answering,” the letter stated.
The organisers said each eligible application was assessed independently by two reviewers.
The fellowship focuses on reporting science, technology and innovation, including artificial intelligence, climate and environmental risks, biomedical innovation, and the circular economy and electronic waste.
The programme includes residential training, digital storytelling sessions and engagements with researchers and policymakers. It is designed to help journalists assess scientific evidence, scrutinise claims and explain complex developments to the public.
The 2026 cohort focuses on evidence-based reporting on technologies and their effects on society.
Aniagolu covers business, labour and security for THE WHISTLER. Her reporting also covers public expenditure, economic developments, security operations and public accountability.
In August 2026, the Federal Capital Territory High Court awarded N12m in damages against the Nigeria Police Force over her arrest, assault and detention while covering a police operation in February 2024.
The Committee to Protect Journalists and other media organisations had also documented the incident.
The UK MEET Fellowship is expected to give participants additional training to examine technological claims, investigate their real-world applications and report their implications for communities in Nigeria and Ghana.
