Three Towers Collapse, Cut Power Supply To Nasarawa Communities

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said the collapse of three transmission towers has disrupted bulk electricity supply to the 33kV feeders serving Keffi and Akwanga areas of Nasarawa State.
TCN said in a statement issued on Thursday that Towers T78, T79 and T80 along the Karu-Keffi-Akwanga 132kV transmission line corridor collapsed on Wednesday during rainy and windy conditions.
According to the company, the 132kV Karu-Keffi-Akwanga Single Circuit Transmission Line tripped on overcurrent relay protection at about 4:06 p.m.
Investigations conducted after the incident revealed that the three transmission towers had collapsed, prompting engineers to isolate the affected section of the line for safety.
“Consequently, all 33kV outgoing feeders at the Keffi and Akwanga Transmission Substations are presently unavailable.
“No load can therefore be nominated on the affected feeders in the interim,” TCN said.
The company said its engineers were already at the site to assess the extent of the damage and determine the requirements for the commencement of restoration work.
TCN apologised to electricity customers taking supply from the affected substations, assuring them that efforts were being made to complete the necessary repairs and restore bulk power supply as quickly as possible.
It added that further updates would be provided as restoration activities progressed.
