Tinubu Extends 2025 Budget Implementation To December 31

President Bola Tinubu has signed an amendment extending the implementation of the 2025 budget from September 30 to December 31, 2026, giving Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) three more months to execute projects covered by the appropriation.
The amendment, the Appropriation (Amendment) (No. 4) Bill, 2025, was passed by the Senate and House of Representatives on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
The extension is the fourth to the implementation period of the 2025 capital budget. The original deadline of December 31, 2025, was first extended to March 31, 2026, then June 30 and September 30.
Presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, said in a statement on Wednesday that the latest extension was intended to prevent disruption to government programmes and allow appropriated funds to be fully utilised.
The Senate said the extension would provide an administrative window for the completion of capital projects for which funds had already been released, particularly those at advanced stages of implementation.
Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, said the extension would help sustain economic activity, support local contractors, improve budget performance and enhance public service delivery.
The House of Representatives also approved the extension after Tinubu requested additional time for MDAs to complete critical infrastructure projects and other capital expenditures under the 2025 fiscal framework.
Tinubu commended the National Assembly for approving the amendment, describing it as a further demonstration of cooperation between the Executive and Legislature in the interest of the country.
