Yusuf Approves Promotion Of 18,984 Kano Teachers, Others

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has approved N235.12 million for the promotion of 18,984 teaching and non-teaching staff of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

The approval covers the January and July 2026 promotion cycles for eligible workers across the state’s 44 Local Government Education Authorities.

The Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Yusuf Kabir, had requested the release of the funds to implement the promotions and effect corresponding salary adjustments.

The Director General, Media and Publicity to the Governor, Sunusi Tofa, noted that the affected workers had completed the required verification and promotion processes.

SUBEB said the implementation would boost staff morale, support career progression and improve service delivery in the basic education sector.

The board said about 60,000 teaching and non-teaching personnel currently work across the 44 LGEAs, making SUBEB one of the largest public institutions in the state.

The government said the Yusuf administration inherited promotion backlogs involving arrears of up to seven years, as well as another backlog spanning about 18 months.

It said the administration had previously cleared the outstanding promotions, which improved staff morale and restored workers’ confidence.

“We completed the necessary processes for the 2026 promotion cycles, including verification of staff eligibility and computation of salary adjustments,” SUBEB said.

The Kano State Executive Council has ratified the approval, clearing the way for the release of the funds and implementation of the promotions.
