Police Recover AK-47, Ammunition In Mercedes-Benz In Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has recovered an AK-47 rifle, two rounds of ammunition and a Mercedes-Benz GLK during an ongoing security operation in Ota, Ogun State.

The recovery followed a search of an unregistered Mercedes-Benz GLK, during which police operatives discovered the rifle and two rounds of 7.62mm ammunition concealed inside the vehicle.

The police said the vehicle and recovered exhibits had been secured, while investigations were ongoing to establish their origin and possible links to criminal activities.

The latest recovery comes amid intensified police operations in Ota following a robbery incident at Ijaba, Iyesi, where operatives reportedly neutralised a suspected armed robber.

During the earlier operation, police also recovered two vehicles, suspected stolen property and a locally made pistol with ammunition.

The Command said the latest breakthrough formed part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen security and tackle criminal activities in the area.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism, assuring residents that the Command would sustain its efforts to protect lives and property.

He also urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and relevant information that could assist ongoing investigations and prevent criminal activities.

The police disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi.

The Command reiterated its commitment to proactive policing and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to security agencies.
