The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has secured the National Rainbow Event Centre in Abuja as the venue for its national convention scheduled for Tuesday, April 14.
The party leadership, led by David Mark as National Chairman and Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary, is expected to hold the convention at the Garki-based facility.
Sources said the party had earlier been denied access to two venues despite prior arrangements.
One of them, Abuja Transport Hilton Hotel, reportedly declined the request without explanation.
Following the setbacks, the ADC leadership kept the Rainbow Event Centre undisclosed while finalising preparations.
The venue previously hosted the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
Located near the Nigerian Police Force Headquarters, the centre is also expected to host the party’s second NEC meeting alongside the convention.
Party sources said the venue has been communicated to state chapters with instructions to keep details restricted.
The convention comes amid a leadership crisis involving the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which has suspended recognition of the Mark-led leadership.
INEC national chairman Prof Joash Amupitan said the decision followed an Appeal Court ruling directing that status quo ante be maintained.
The ADC has approached the Supreme Court seeking intervention in the dispute.
Sources also said the party has written to the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, as well as the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, requesting security for the event.
Preparations at the venue were ongoing as of Monday, with reports indicating that decoration was being carried out quietly ahead of the party’s planned early arrival on Tuesday.
