Dauda Lawal Bags BON Infrastructure Governor of the Year Award

Governor Dauda Lawal has been honoured as Infrastructure Governor of the Year by the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON), in recognition of his administration’s urban renewal and development efforts across Zamfara State.

The award was presented during the second edition of the BON Awards held at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja.

According to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, BON acknowledged what it described as unprecedented and transformative infrastructural achievements in the state, noting that the recognition extended beyond the broadcasting sector to celebrate excellence in governance.

Other notable Nigerians honoured at the 2026 Nigeria Broadcasting Awards included Bassey Otu, Uba Sani, Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris, as well as John Momoh, Shyngle Wigwe, Abubakar Jijiwa, and Sa’a Ibrahim.

The statement explained that BON, established in 1973 as the umbrella body for public and private broadcasters in Nigeria, carried out a rigorous selection process spanning several months to identify individuals and institutions demonstrating excellence and contributing to higher standards nationwide.

The awards committee, chaired by former Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission, Danladi Bako, included industry veterans and representatives from regulatory bodies such as the NBC and the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria.

The panel highlighted Governor Lawal’s achievements across multiple sectors, particularly his efforts in transforming Gusau into a modern state capital. It also cited key projects such as the construction of a new international airport, extensive urban renewal initiatives, and the development and upgrade of general hospitals.

In the education sector, the administration has reportedly built, renovated, and equipped over 800 schools across the state’s 14 local government areas.

The statement added that the recognition is expected to further motivate the governor to intensify efforts toward rebuilding and advancing Zamfara State.
