EFCC nabs suspected fake lawyer over forged NBA seal

The Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Ikoyi, Lagos State has apprehended a suspected fake lawyer, 55, over the alleged use of a forged seal of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Lagos.

The anti-graft agency confirmed this in a statement posted on Tuesday on its X handle: @officialEFCC.

It stated that the suspect was apprehended on Monday following investigations into the allegations of impersonation and forgery.

The statement said: “The suspect, who operates a legal and educational consultancy in the Ikorodu area of Lagos, came to the attention of the commission after he submitted a petition dated September 22 on behalf of his clients.

“The petition was against the management of Global West Vessel Specialist Nigeria Limited.”

The EFCC said further investigations revealed that both the petition and a subsequent letter of withdrawal dated March 5, 2026 carried a forged NBA seal.

The agency said the suspect confessed to obtaining the fake seal from an undisclosed business centre in Lagos.

“During interrogation, he claimed he obtained a law degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 2018 through evening classes but did not attend the Nigerian Law School, a mandatory requirement for legal practice in Nigeria,” it stated.

According to EFCC, the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
