Ibadan Elders Intervene in Makinde–Ladoja Dispute, Urge Olubadan to Avoid Politics

Elders in Ibadan have stepped in to calm rising tensions between Seyi Makinde and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, calling for restraint and unity.

The Balogun of Ibadanland, Tajudeen Ajibola, disclosed that respected figures in the city have begun efforts to resolve the situation and prevent further escalation.

The development follows renewed political controversy sparked by claims from former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, who alleged that Makinde was plotting to remove Ladoja from his traditional position. Both the Oyo State Government and the Olubadan’s palace have previously dismissed such claims.

Amid the tension, speculation also emerged about a possible impeachment move against the governor. However, the Chief Whip of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Gbenga Oyekola, publicly denied involvement in any such plan, stressing his commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the state.

Speaking with journalists at his residence in Ibadan, Ajibola reassured residents that there is no real conflict between the governor and the monarch, noting that elders are actively managing the situation behind the scenes.

He urged the Olubadan to exercise caution and remain above partisan politics to preserve the dignity of the traditional institution. According to him, the monarch’s role should be that of a unifying father figure to all, regardless of political affiliation.

Ajibola also appealed to residents not to be swayed by unverified reports circulating on social media, emphasizing that Ibadan has moved beyond its history of political unrest and is committed to sustaining peace.

Reaffirming his stance, the Balogun distanced himself from any activity that could destabilize Oyo State, adding that he was neither consulted nor involved in any alleged political plots.

He concluded by reiterating his respect for the Olubadan, urging the monarch to remain a symbol of unity and tradition while steering clear of political controversies.
