Nigerian Law School 2025 Bar Finals: 212 Earn First Class as Over 1,000 Candidates Fail

The Nigerian Law School has released the results of its 2025 Bar Final Examinations for the mainstream cohort, with 212 candidates achieving First Class honours out of a total of 7,602 participants.

The results, approved by the Council of Legal Education led by Emeka Ngige, were presented by the institution’s Director-General, Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote. The examinations were conducted in December 2025.

Data from the results show that First Class graduates accounted for 2.8 per cent of candidates, reflecting a slight drop compared to the 2024 results, where 260 candidates (3.6 per cent) attained the same distinction.

Across other categories, 1,216 candidates (16 per cent) earned Second Class Upper division, while the largest group—2,961 candidates (39 per cent)—fell into the Second Class Lower division. Additionally, 1,622 candidates (21 per cent) obtained a Pass, and 314 candidates (4.1 per cent) were awarded a Conditional Pass.

However, 1,067 candidates, representing about 14 per cent of the total, failed the examination, potentially delaying their call to the Bar. A further 210 candidates, equivalent to 2.8 per cent, were absent.

The Bar Final Examination remains the final stage of training and a mandatory requirement for admission into the Nigerian Bar, determining the eligibility of aspiring lawyers to practise in the country.
