R-Jolad Hospital has expanded its renal care offering with the launch of an advanced dialysis centre at its Gbagada facility in Lagos, a move aimed at improving access to treatment for patients with chronic kidney disease amid persistent gaps in specialist care across Nigeria.
The centre, which begins operations on April 20, adds to the hospital’s growing specialist services network and is expected to increase access to dialysis for patients who often struggle with availability and cost.
Funso Oladipo, managing director, R-Jolad Hospital, said that the addition of dialysis services will ensure patients requiring renal care receive integrated, end-to-end treatment within the R-Jolad ecosystem, improving outcomes and patient convenience.
“Our priority at R-Jolad is to continually evolve in response to patient needs,” he said. “Beyond access, we are also focused on affordability, ensuring more patients can receive consistent, life-saving treatment without undue financial strain.”
Nigeria continues to face a severe shortage in kidney care infrastructure. Data from the 2023 ISN-Global Kidney Health Atlas shows that only one in 1,250 patients has access to a specialised dialysis centre, while there are fewer than two nephrologists per million people in the country.
The gap has contributed to delayed treatment, rising out-of-pocket expenses, and growing pressure on families managing long-term renal conditions.
R-Jolad said the new facility is part of its effort to respond to these structural challenges by expanding integrated care within its hospital system; the new unit will allow patients requiring renal care to receive diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management within a single ecosystem, reducing the need for external referrals.
To support the service, R-Jolad has partnered with Osiris Health, managers of Life Support Medical Centre, a long-established dialysis provider in Nigeria.
Osiris Health will provide clinical oversight and technical support for the new unit, including equipment management and treatment protocols.

Founded in 1986, Life Support Medical Centre has built nearly four decades of experience in renal care, including the management of complex kidney cases and long-term dialysis treatment.
Chronic kidney disease remains a growing public health concern in Nigeria, driven by factors such as hypertension, diabetes, and late diagnosis. Treatment costs remain a major barrier, with many patients unable to sustain long-term dialysis.
In response, R-Jolad said it has introduced dialysis services at a discounted rate per session, in a bid to reduce the financial burden on patients requiring ongoing care.
R-Jolad, established in 1982, operates as a 275-bed multispecialty hospital with eight locations across Lagos and Port Harcourt. It provides a range of specialist services supported by diagnostic and treatment facilities.
The hospital said the expansion aligns with its broader strategy to scale access to healthcare through partnerships, infrastructure investment, and improved clinical capacity.
R-Jolad has also gained industry recognition. It recently won the Nigerian Healthcare Excellence Award (NHEA) for Secondary Care Hospital of the Year and is accredited to train house officers and resident doctors in family medicine, reinforcing its role in both healthcare delivery and medical training.
