President Bola Tinubu has taken a formal step toward seeking a second term in 2027 after obtaining the presidential expression of interest and nomination forms of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja.
The forms, which cost a combined N100 million, were purchased on his behalf by a coalition of supporters and political groups drawn from across the country.
Member of the House of Representatives, James Faleke, who represented the president at the event, received the forms from APC National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu. Faleke, a prominent figure in the Tinubu Support Group, said the funds were contributed by over 1,000 individuals, dismissing claims that a single sponsor financed the purchase.
Speaking to Applesbite, Faleke described the move as a collective effort by Nigerians backing the president’s re-election, expressing confidence that Tinubu would emerge victorious in 2027.
During the exercise, Faleke also obtained nomination forms for Lagos Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, who has been adopted as the APC’s consensus governorship candidate in Lagos; Senator Idiat Adebule; and himself, as he seeks another term in the House of Representatives.
He noted that the large number of contributors made it impractical for all to be physically present, adding that representatives were chosen to complete the process.
Meanwhile, the APC has dismissed allegations that it is restricting access to nomination forms. The party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Duro Meseko, insisted that the forms are available to all qualified aspirants.
Also present at the venue was Senator Shehu Buba, who picked up a governorship nomination form to contest the 2027 election in Bauchi State. He expressed optimism about unseating the incumbent administration and encouraged other aspirants to participate in the process.
In a related development, Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo held a stakeholders’ meeting to explore consensus arrangements ahead of the 2027 elections. However, discussions ended without a clear resolution as differing interests persisted among participants.
