Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has directed the Katsina State Police Command to strengthen security measures around schools across the state as part of efforts to safeguard students, teachers and educational facilities.
The directive was conveyed by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Department of Finance and Administration, Sulaiman Abdul, during a two-day operational visit to Katsina State, where he assessed security arrangements at selected schools.
According to Abdul, the police command has been instructed to intensify patrol operations, improve intelligence gathering and maintain a strong security presence around educational institutions to prevent criminal activities and ensure a safe learning environment.
“The command is directed to intensify patrols, strengthen intelligence gathering and maintain high police visibility around educational institutions to prevent violent crimes and guarantee a safe environment for teaching and learning,” he stated.
As part of the tour, the DIG visited the Police Children School and the Government Girls Technical and Commercial College in Charanchi Local Government Area.
During the inspection, he examined perimeter fencing, access control systems, security posts and the deployment of police personnel to evaluate the effectiveness of existing security measures.
Abdul also met separately with school management teams to discuss security concerns and obtain firsthand information on challenges facing the institutions.
He advised school administrators to enforce strict access control procedures and promptly report any suspicious activities within and around their premises to security agencies for immediate action.
