The political landscape in Benue State recorded a significant development on Saturday as former governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Terwase Matthias Byuan, officially joined the Labour Party, further boosting the party’s growing strength and influence across the state.
The announcement was made by the Member representing Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency, Philip Agbese.
Agbese, who is also a prominent Labour Party leader in Benue State, warmly received the former APC stalwart into the Labour Party family.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Hon. Agbese described Dr. Byuan as a respected administrator, accomplished professional, and experienced political figure whose entrance into the party marks another important milestone in the Labour Party’s expanding political movement in Benue State.
Dr. Byuan, who until recently served as Executive Director of Finance at the Federal Housing Authority under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, resigned from the APC before formally aligning with the Labour Party.
Speaking on the development, Hon. Agbese stated: “As the Chief Labourer of Benue State, I warmly and wholeheartedly welcome Dr. Terwase Matthias Byuan into our fold. His wealth of experience, administrative capacity, and commitment to public service will undoubtedly strengthen our collective vision and deepen the Labour Party’s grassroots presence across the state.”
The federal lawmaker further disclosed that the Benue State Chairman of the Labour Party, Hon. William Okefie Ochonu, alongside other key stakeholders and party leaders, will formally present the party membership registration card to Dr. Byuan during a brief official ceremony.
Political analysts and observers have described the latest defection as a major political realignment capable of reshaping the dynamics of future electoral contests in Benue State.
The development also reinforces the growing appeal of the Labour Party among influential political actors and citizens seeking purposeful leadership, people-oriented governance, and inclusive development.
