‘Calculated Scheme’ – ADC Exposes Plot To Pressure Justice Nwite To Recuse Himself
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused agents of the Federal Government of attempting to interfere in an ongoing judicial matter involving Nafiu Bala Gombe.
In a statement issued to Papers News on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party alleged that pressure was being mounted on Justice Nwite to recuse himself from the case.
The ADC warned that any attempt to manipulate the judicial process would amount to an attack on the independence of the judiciary and democratic governance.
According to the party, there are moves to force the judge to step aside so the case can be reassigned to judges allegedly perceived to be politically pliable.
The statement read, “The party has uncovered a disturbing plot by desperate forces within the corridors of power to frustrate the course of justice by mounting pressure on Justice Nwite to step aside from the case.”
It added that the alleged move was part of broader attempts to weaponise state institutions against opposition parties.
The ADC said it found it suspicious that the matter was fixed before Justice Nwite for May 8, 2026, despite claims that the Certified True Copy of the Supreme Court judgment had not yet been formally released or communicated to the trial court.
The party alleged that the development could be part of a strategy to create grounds for the judge’s recusal.
“We have credible reasons to believe that this unusual haste is part of a calculated scheme to force Justice Nwite into recusing himself,” the statement added.
The opposition party stressed that judicial recusal is guided by legal principles and should not be manipulated for political convenience.
According to the ADC, any attempt to remove the matter from the judge through intimidation, blackmail or administrative pressure would amount to interference in the administration of justice.
“Judicial recusal is not a toy for political convenience,” the party stated.
The ADC called on the National Judicial Council (NJC), the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) and other stakeholders within the judiciary to intervene urgently.
It also appealed to the international community and diplomatic missions in Nigeria to pay attention to what it described as dangerous developments capable of undermining constitutional democracy.
The party warned that attempts to procure “friendly courts” and “convenient judges” could erode public confidence in the judiciary.
It added that Nigeria’s democratic history had suffered in the past due to alleged judicial compromise and urged judges to resist political pressure.
“The judiciary must remain the last hope of the common man, and not the last refuge of desperate politicians terrified of justice,” the statement said.
