Future Leaders Festival stage inter-school female football competition

The Nigeria Future Leaders Festival in conjunction with the Lagos State Football Association has concluded plans to stage the 2026 edition of the inter school Female Football competition.

The Legacy Pitch of the National Stadium in Surulere will host the competition expected to attract about 70 schools across the state.

The theme of this year’s edition is: “Accelerating action for gender equality.”

Four private teams are expected to be on parade on May 21, 2026 to kickstart this year’s activities.

Every year, the female football tournament takes place on Children’s Day, but this edition is starting a bit earlier because of the Eid-Fitri festival billed for next week.

The four teams expected on parade on Thursday are Greensprings School, Lekki; Chrisland High School, Ikeja; Supreme Education Foundation, Magodo GRA; and Wellspring College, Omole Estate.

According to the coordinator of the tournament, the 11th in the series, Folashade Falokun, all arrangements for the event have been concluded to make this edition a hitch-free event.

Falokun said: “We do this every year to celebrate the girl-child in public schools, especially, but this year, we are focusing on private schools.

“We will feature exciting side attractions and competitions, with participation of 1,500 students from both private and public schools in Lagos State.

“We are also expecting 500 teachers/parents to be part of this event.

“The main event is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 26th May, 2026 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, where there will be side attractions like quiz competition, drama, choreography, cultural parade, and taekwondo display.”
