LGAN celebrates Akande’s appointment as Nigeria’s ambassador to Sweden

The Ladies’ Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) has celebrated the appointment of Lola Akande as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Sweden.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports she was a former Lagos State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

President Bola Tinubu approved her appointment as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Sweden on March 6, 2026 alongside 64 other ambassadors-designate.

The ambassadors were assigned to various foreign missions after their confirmation by the Senate.

LGAN President, Lami Ahmed, described Akande as a distinguished golfer, disciplined leader and strong advocate for women empowerment.

Ahmed said her appointment reflected the values of excellence, grace, and strategic leadership nurtured through golf and public service.

She said: “Akande has consistently demonstrated integrity, discipline and commitment in every responsibility entrusted to her.

“She represents the strength and resilience of Nigerian women who continue to break barriers in sports, governance and diplomacy.”

She noted that Akande’s transition from the golf course to diplomatic service was a source of pride to members of LGAN and Nigerians generally.

Ahmed added: “We are proud that one of our own is representing Nigeria on the global stage. 

“Her appointment is well deserved and inspiring.

“She has always empowered women at the grassroots and encouraged younger generations to pursue excellence with courage and determination.”
