The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the death of three police officers following a deadly attack on a Police Mobile Force camp in Tenebo Village, Kaiama Local Government Area of the state, in the early hours of Saturday.
The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, Ojo Adekimi, disclosed this in a statement issued through the Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, expressing shock and deep sorrow over the incident.
The commissioner said, “I have received with profound shock and deep sorrow the report of a deadly attack on the PMF Camp at Tenebo Village, Kaiama LGA, which occurred in the early hours of today, 2nd May, 2026.”
The police boss condemned the attack, describing it as heinous and cowardly, while noting that the fallen officers died in active service to the nation.
“This heinous and cowardly act, which claimed the lives of three gallant police officers and left several others critically injured, is strongly condemned in its entirety
“The fallen officers paid the ultimate price in the line of duty, bravely standing to defend the safety and security of our communities. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten,” he said.
Adekimi extended condolences to the families of the deceased officers and wished the injured personnel a speedy recovery.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased officers during this moment of immense grief. I also pray for the swift recovery of the injured personnel currently receiving treatment.
“No words can fully capture the pain of this loss, but the Command stands firmly with the bereaved families and assures them of our unwavering support,” he added.
He assured residents that the perpetrators of the attack would be tracked down and brought to justice.
“I want to assure the good people of Kwara State that we will deploy all available operational, intelligence, and tactical resources to ensure that the perpetrators of this barbaric attack are tracked down and brought to justice. There will be no hiding place for those responsible,” he said.
The PUNCH had earlier reported that suspected terrorists launched a surprise attack on the PMF camp, killing at least three officers and injuring others, while residents fled their homes amid heavy gunfire.
Meanwhile, the commissioner also disclosed that the command had recorded a breakthrough in its ongoing operations against kidnapping, with the arrest of six suspected kidnappers in Baruten Local Government Area.
“In our sustained offensive against kidnapping and other criminal activities, we have successfully arrested six suspected kidnappers and recovered firearms following a coordinated intelligence-driven operation in Baruten Local Government Area,” he said.
He explained that the operation followed the reported abduction of one Isaq J. of Boriya Village via Okuta on April 23, 2026.
“The suspects had demanded a ransom of Fifty Million Naira (₦50,000,000). Upon receipt of the report, we immediately activated a coordinated manhunt and mounted sustained operational pressure on the criminal elements, which led to the eventual release of the victim,” he added.
Adekimi further revealed that one Mohammed Shede was arrested and confessed to aiding the kidnappers.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to providing actionable intelligence to members of the gang identified as ‘Smalley’ and ‘Borugujo,’ which facilitated the tracking and abduction of the victim at his farm,” he said.
He added that further investigations led to the arrest of additional suspects, including the gang’s armourer.
“Further investigations led to the arrest of Abubakar Aliu, identified as the gang’s armourer, alongside Abu Sonkpia, Saliu Yakubu, and Sanni Sakariyau, all of Boriya Village.
“The suspects also confessed to their involvement in the kidnapping as well as an armed robbery attack on one Muhammed Manu of the same community,” he said.
The commissioner said items recovered from the suspects included firearms and mobile phones.
He added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend fleeing members of the syndicate and called on residents to support the police with credible information.
“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate, including ‘Smalley’ and ‘Borugujo,’ along with two additional accomplices currently at large.
“I urge members of the public to continue to provide credible information to aid our ongoing security operations,” he said.
