The Plateau Peace Advocates for Good Governance and Social Stability (PPAGGSS) has condemned the recent terrorist attack on mourners in Plateau State, urging citizens to support the state government and security agencies, especially the Department of State Services (DSS) in ensuring that the perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted.
The group made its position known in a condolence statement issued by its National Coordinator, Ibrahim D. Lengshak.
The PPAGGSS described the attack as barbaric, cruel and unacceptable, saying it represented a direct assault on innocent citizens and communal peace on the Plateau.
It said the killing of mourners had once again highlighted the urgent need for stronger collaboration between security agencies and local communities in tackling terrorism and violent crimes across the state.
It stated: “We strongly condemn this attack on defenceless mourners.
“It is cruel, inhuman and unacceptable.
“Plateau people deserve to live in peace without fear of violence and bloodshed.”
The group specifically called on residents to cooperate with the Plateau State Government and the DSS in the ongoing efforts to track down those responsible for the Angwan Rukuba Palm Sunday attacks and other acts of violence in the state.
According to the group, public support through intelligence sharing and timely information remains crucial to dismantling criminal networks operating within vulnerable communities.
It said: “We urge residents not to shield criminals or terrorists in any guise.
“This is the time for all law-abiding citizens to stand firmly behind the state government and the DSS by providing credible information that can help security agencies dismantle the networks responsible for these heinous attacks.”
PPAGGSS also stressed the need for security agencies to go beyond arrests by ensuring the diligent prosecution of all suspects linked to acts of terror and violence.
It said: “It is important that the perpetrators of these crimes are not only apprehended but fully prosecuted in accordance with the law.
“Bringing those responsible to book will send a strong signal that acts of terror and violence against innocent citizens will never be tolerated on the Plateau.”
The group further appealed to residents to avoid reprisals or inflammatory actions capable of escalating tensions, warning that retaliatory attacks could worsen the fragile security situation.
PPAGGSS also urged the Federal Government and relevant security authorities to strengthen intelligence gathering and proactive deployments in vulnerable communities to prevent future attacks.
The group expressed condolences to the families affected by the tragedy and prayed for the repose of the souls of those killed as well as speedy recovery for the injured.
