The Lions International Multiple District 404 Nigeria on Saturday elected Dora Adebayo, the wife of veteran journalist, Sola Adebayo, as the Second Vice District Governor in Delta State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports it was part of the Lions five-day programme at its 19th Multiple District Convention.
The convention, tagged: “Asaba Amaka 2026,” began on Wednesday in Asaba, the Delta State capita;.
The Convention has as its theme: “Building Bridges of Service and Unity.”
Announcing the result of the elections, the Chairperson, Nomination and Election Committee, Lion Patricia Udeme, described it as peaceful, transparent, and credible.
Udeme said that Adebayo emerged victorious after polling 75 votes to defeat her opponent, Lion Evelyn Imokhe, who polled 32 votes.
According to her, the total number of registered voters was 119, while 115 delegates were accredited to vote.
“A total of 115 votes were cast, with 107 valid votes and eight rejected votes recorded,” she said.
Udeme, a past District Governor of Lions Clubs International, said that members “freely participated in the voting and accepted the outcome in good faith”.
She said: “Elections naturally produce winners and losers.
“The important aspect is that the process remained orderly and transparent.”
She said that the Lions leadership structure was designed to prepare members for leadership responsibilities through mentorship and continuous training.
Udeme further said that while all the contestants were qualified leaders, delegates eventually elected the candidate they considered best suited for the position.
She said that Adebayo would assume office as Second District Governor 404-A4 Nigeria in July.
Speaking in an interview, Adebayo expressed gratitude to members of the organisation for the confidence reposed in her.
She described the election as a “win win” for all and urged all the members to give her the necessary support to grow and deepen the development of the organisation.
She pledged to serve with dedication and humility, saying that her administration would focus on empowerment, unity, and humanitarian service.
Adebayo pledged to pay special attention to supporting members and vulnerable people within communities through programmes aimed at improving livelihoods and promoting self reliance.
She expressed the need for stronger collaboration among members, saying that unity remained essential for the growth and success of the organisation.
“I remain committed to serving humanity and justifying the confidence placed in me by members,” she said.
NAN reports that the event earlier featured leadership sessions, humanitarian discussions, policy deliberations, and community-focused initiatives, including childhood cancer support programmes.
It attracted Lions and Leos from across Nigeria, alongside government officials, traditional rulers, corporate partners, and other stakeholders.
Also, goodwill massages came from different stakeholders, including Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme.
