Governor Francis Nwifuru has made an early appeal to Ebonyi State voters to forgive the mistakes of his administration and re-elect him and other political office holders in 2027.
The surprise remark came on Sunday at a democracy thanksgiving service in the Government House Chapel, Abakaliki.
The service was held to mark the third anniversary of his administration.
Speaking before worshippers, top officials, lawmakers and clergy, Nwifuru admitted his government, the National Assembly, and State House of Assembly had fallen short in some areas.
He said: “Please forgive us.
“Forgive me and the National Assembly members and the House of Assembly members.
“Forgive our shortcomings and vote for us again.”
Political observers say the direct plea signals the start of 2027 politicking ahead of the general election.
Reviewing his three years in office, the governor thanked God for achievements, describing governance as a learning process requiring humility and public patience.
He stressed that no government is perfect, but pledged his administration remains focused on better service delivery, expanded infrastructure, and more democratic dividends.
The service ended with prayers for peace, unity, and continued development in Ebonyi State.
