Former Acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hilliard Etta, has claimed that Nigeria has recorded fewer deaths under President Bola Tinubu’s administration compared to previous governments.
Etta made the assertion during a Sunday interview on Arise News, where he defended the security performance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, arguing that public judgment should be based on data rather than perception.
According to him, reports and security indices suggest that fatalities linked to insecurity have reduced under the current administration. He also rejected claims that the security situation had worsened, insisting that the military has recorded significant successes against terrorist groups.
Etta further maintained that Nigeria is witnessing unprecedented infrastructure development, particularly in road construction. He claimed that thousands of kilometres of roads are currently being built across the country, describing the scale of projects under Tinubu as unmatched in recent history.
On the economy, he pointed to indicators such as foreign reserves and stock market performance, arguing that they reflect positive growth trends. He noted that market capitalisation and the All-Share Index have increased significantly since 2023, and said Nigeria is currently among fast-growing economies globally.
However, he acknowledged that many citizens are yet to feel the impact of these improvements at household level. According to him, while macroeconomic indicators may appear positive, the benefits are still “trickling down” and require time to reflect in areas such as cost of living, healthcare, education, and agriculture.
