U.S. President Donald Trump abruptly cut short a televised interview with NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday after a tense exchange with anchor Kristen Welker over his repeated allegations of election fraud.
According to News Connect Online, the interview—filmed in Wisconsin—turned confrontational when Welker pressed Trump to provide concrete evidence backing his claims that the 2020 U.S. presidential election, as well as recent California primaries, were manipulated.
Trump maintained that electoral fraud had taken place, describing the 2020 election as a “dirty election” and insisting that similar irregularities were still occurring in California.
When asked to substantiate his claims, he responded that his assertions were based on what he had observed and information he had received from others.
“All I have to do is look… All I have to do is listen, and I listen to people, and let’s see what happens,” he said during the interview.
The discussion escalated as Trump accused Welker and major media outlets—including American Broadcasting Company, Columbia Broadcasting System, Cable News Network, and NBC—of bias and dishonesty.
As Welker continued pressing for evidence, Trump ended the interview, telling her: “You’re either crooked, or you’re stupid. Let’s call it quits. Because I’ve had enough. Thank you, darling.”
He then stood up and walked out, while Welker noted that she had traveled to Wisconsin for the interview.
Short video clips of the exchange quickly circulated online, generating widespread reactions.
Trump has long maintained that the 2020 election was affected by irregularities, citing affidavits, statistical concerns, and procedural disputes. However, election officials, multiple court rulings, and independent observers have consistently found no evidence of widespread fraud capable of changing the outcome of the election.
