Three Nigerian children, Chimdiebube Onwubiko, Don Anele Munachimso, and Onyedikachi Egejurum, have won gold medals at the International STEM Olympiad, emerging among the top performers in the global competition.
Education technologist Alex Onyia announced the achievement in a post on X, describing it as a significant milestone for Nigeria’s education sector.
According to Onyia, Don Anele Munachimso won a gold medal in Science and emerged as the world’s best performer in the category. He noted that Munachimso had previously been recognised as Nigeria’s top performer in IGCSE Chemistry.
He also revealed that Onyedikachi Egejurum won a gold medal and emerged as the world’s best in the Primary Mathematics category, while Chimdiebube Onwubiko also secured a gold medal at the competition.
Reacting to the feat, Onyia said the investment in nurturing young talent is paying off, describing the achievement as “the beginning of greatness for the country.”
The International STEM Olympiad brings together young learners from different countries to compete in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, with the Nigerian pupils distinguishing themselves among participants from around the world.
