Amaechi, Sowore Clash in Heated Exchange at NBA 2026 Conference in Rivers

A heated exchange broke out between former Rivers State Governor and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, and human rights activist and presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, during the 2026 Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The confrontation occurred during a panel session at the conference, where both men engaged in a tense verbal exchange that attracted the attention of participants.

Sowore and Amaechi were among prominent political figures taking part in discussions at the NBA conference, alongside former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and other political leaders.

The disagreement reportedly centred on political issues and the direction of Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the two men exchanging opposing views in what became a shouting match.

The incident occurred as the conference provided a platform for politicians and other public figures to discuss issues concerning Nigeria’s democracy, governance and political future.

Videos from the event showed the confrontation between Sowore and Amaechi, with the exchange drawing reactions from participants and observers on social media.

The 2026 NBA Annual General Conference is being held in Port Harcourt under the theme “Beyond Limits,” bringing together lawyers, political leaders, academics and other stakeholders to deliberate on national issues.
