The Federal High Court in Lagos has approved an additional 30-day detention period for socialite and jeweller Afolabi Kazeem Micheal, popularly known as KC Luxury.
Justice Akintayo Aluko granted the extension on August 20, 2026, following an application by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) seeking more time to investigate allegations involving the businessman.
KC Luxury was arrested by NDLEA operatives on August 13 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, while reportedly preparing to travel to Paris.
His arrest was linked to the agency’s seizure of 184.5 kilogrammes of cocaine, which the NDLEA described as part of its largest cocaine recovery involving a courier company.
The anti-narcotics agency also alleged that cash and jewellery were recovered from KC Luxury when he was arrested.
The items reportedly included €7,750, £2,800 and ₦100,000, as well as several expensive pieces of jewellery.
Following his continued detention, KC Luxury approached the Federal High Court in Lagos to challenge the legality of his continued custody.
The suit was filed before Justice Friday Ogazi, with his father, Eric Afolabi, submitting an affidavit in support of the application.
In the affidavit, the father alleged that his son had remained in NDLEA custody since his arrest without being adequately informed of the alleged offence or formally charged before a court.
The family is asking the court to declare the continued detention unlawful and a violation of KC Luxury’s constitutional right to personal liberty.
They are also seeking additional orders concerning his release and the handling of the case.
Justice Ogazi directed the NDLEA to respond to the allegations and gave the agency five days to file its response.
The judge further ordered the anti-drug agency to produce KC Luxury before the court at the next hearing of the substantive application.
The court also directed that the ex parte motion, enrolled order and other relevant documents be served on the NDLEA within four working days.
The case has been adjourned until September 9, 2026, when the court is expected to hear the substantive application challenging KC Luxury’s detention.
