The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has confirmed the release of the Nigerian girls who were detained in Mauritius.
The Commission’s Head of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols Unit, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, said this in a statement on Monday.
Balogun quoted the Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, as saying the commission is in close engagement with the relevant Nigerian Embassy, which has formally taken up the matter with the authorities concerned to ensure accountability and prevent a recurrence.
According to Dabiri-Erewa, the girls have been safely released in Nairobi, Kenya and currently en route to Nigeria.
The NiDCOM Chairman expressing empathy, hoped that the affected ladies would be willing to share their experiences to inform any necessary follow-up actions and support measures.
She reiterated that the welfare, safety, and protection of Nigerians, wherever they may be, will always remain a priority in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to support Nigerians at home and across the diaspora.
