Regency Alliance Insurance Completes Recapitalisation, Targets Larger Risks

Regency Alliance Insurance Plc has completed its recapitalisation programme, strengthening its financial capacity as Nigeria’s insurance industry adjusts to new capital requirements.

The insurer disclosed the development in a regulatory notice dated August 14, 2026, following the publication of a list of compliant insurance companies by the National Insurance Commission a day earlier.

Regency Alliance said its inclusion on the NAICOM list confirms the successful completion of its recapitalisation exercise.

The company did not disclose the amount of additional capital raised or its post-recapitalisation capital position in the announcement.

However, management expects the strengthened balance sheet to increase the insurer’s capacity to underwrite larger and more complex risks.

The additional financial capacity could also allow Regency Alliance to pursue business opportunities that previously required greater underwriting strength while supporting its ability to meet obligations to policyholders.

Beyond underwriting, the company plans to use its stronger position to accelerate strategic initiatives across its operations.

Regency Alliance identified technology adoption, innovation and improvements in customer experience among the areas expected to receive increased attention following completion of the recapitalisation programme.

The development comes as Nigerian insurers strengthen their balance sheets in response to reforms intended to increase the financial resilience and underwriting capacity of the industry.

Higher capital levels could enable domestic insurers to retain a greater share of large commercial and industrial risks that might otherwise require substantial reinsurance or offshore underwriting capacity.

For Regency Alliance, management believes completing the recapitalisation provides a foundation for expanding its participation in more significant insurance transactions while pursuing sustainable growth.

The company said it would continue providing insurance products designed to protect individuals, businesses and institutions against financial risks.

Regency Alliance is listed on the Nigerian Exchange Limited and is regulated by NAICOM.

The company is led by Managing Director Bode Oseni, while Wale Taiwo, SAN, serves as Acting Chairman.

With the capital exercise concluded, Regency Alliance said its attention will now shift toward expanding business capacity, strengthening relationships with brokers and policyholders, and pursuing new opportunities across Nigeria’s insurance market.
