At least 27 people have been killed and 42 others, including four children, after a Russian drone strike hit a warehouse in Myla village, near Kyiv, causing a massive fire and a series of explosions.
The incident occurred in the Bucha district of the Kyiv region, where rescue and recovery operations continued into Saturday.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said more than 300 emergency workers were deployed to the scene, while over 370 residents were evacuated from the affected area.
According to Zelenskyy, the warehouse was initially hit by a drone before a subsequent explosion caused extensive damage to nearby infrastructure, including homes and a facility providing care for elderly people and persons with disabilities.
The Ukrainian president said one of the victims was Taras Didych, head of the Dmytrivka community, who was reportedly killed while trying to rescue people trapped in the affected area.
Regional Governor Tymur Tkachenko confirmed that 42 people sustained injuries, including four children.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the explosion, including whether ammunition or other explosive materials were improperly stored at the warehouse.
Ukraine’s National Police and Security Service have reportedly opened criminal proceedings over suspected official negligence.
Zelenskyy said the storage of ammunition near residential communities is prohibited under Ukrainian regulations and insisted that those responsible for any breach must be held accountable.
However, Russia’s Ministry of Defence said the site was deliberately targeted because it was an ammunition depot. The ministry claimed the facility contained components and launch boosters used for FP-1 and FP-2 long-range unmanned aerial vehicles.
The strike formed part of a broader overnight Russian drone offensive across several Ukrainian regions.
Zelenskyy said the Odesa, Dnipro, Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, Kherson, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Donetsk and Chernihiv regions were among areas targeted.
He said more than 260 attack drones were used in the overnight assault, including Banderol drones, while Kyiv experienced repeated attacks involving jet-powered unmanned aircraft.
Ukraine’s military said it successfully intercepted and destroyed 233 Russian drones during the overnight operation.
Tkachenko also reported that a separate Russian attack in the Boryspil district killed a 14-year-old child.
The latest assault comes amid a renewed escalation in long-range drone and missile attacks between Russia and Ukraine.
Both sides have increasingly targeted military, energy, industrial and logistics facilities during the conflict. Russia has continued striking Ukrainian cities and infrastructure, while Ukraine has stepped up attacks against Russian industrial and economic sites it says contribute to Moscow’s war effort.
Russian authorities also reported casualties from Ukrainian attacks. Two people were reportedly killed and 21 others injured in strikes across the Belgorod and Rostov regions during the preceding 24 hours.
Russian online retailer Ozon said one of its logistics facilities was damaged during an overnight Ukrainian drone attack. The company said operations at another facility were temporarily suspended and workers evacuated because of security concerns.
Ozon further reported that facilities in Krasnodar, Dagestan, Stavropol and Adygea had been targeted in attacks earlier in the week, with injuries and property damage recorded.
Ukraine has also recently targeted facilities belonging to Wildberries, Russia’s largest online retailer, accusing the company of supplying components to the Russian military. Moscow has rejected the allegation.
