Twenty indigent but academically outstanding students in Ogun State have been awarded fully funded secondary school scholarships by the House of Emmanuels Foundation.
The beneficiaries emerged from a competitive scholarship examination organised by the foundation for more than 500 students drawn from public secondary schools in Abeokuta North and Abeokuta South Local Government Areas of the state.
The awards were presented on Friday, September 25, 2026, during the second edition of the foundation’s educational intervention programme held at Lisabi Grammar School, Idiaba, Abeokuta.
The ceremony attracted beneficiaries, parents, teachers, community leaders and other stakeholders, with some parents reportedly overwhelmed by emotion as the foundation unveiled the scholarship package.
The scholarship examination, conducted free of charge in April, was coordinated with the educational authorities in the two local government areas.
Following the examination, the 20 highest-performing students were selected on merit for the three-year scholarship programme.
Under the scheme, the foundation will finance the beneficiaries’ education from Senior Secondary School One to Senior Secondary School Three, including tuition and other school-related fees.
The beneficiaries will also receive school uniforms, bags, sandals and writing materials, while the foundation will sponsor their West African Examinations Council registration fees.
Speaking on the initiative, the founder of the House of Emmanuels Foundation, Mr Oluwasegun Amos Emmanuel, said the intervention was motivated by his commitment to youth empowerment and educational development.
Emmanuel’s address was delivered at the ceremony by the Managing Director of Oluwalogbon Electronics and community leader, Hon. Solomon Enilolobo.
The founder said education remained a major pathway to individual advancement and societal development, stressing that lack of financial resources should not deprive academically promising students of the opportunity to realise their potential.
He urged the beneficiaries to remain committed to their studies and, after attaining positions of influence, extend similar assistance to disadvantaged people in their communities.
Enilolobo, who spoke after presenting the founder’s address, charged the students to remain focused and avoid negative influences capable of derailing their academic and personal development.
He described the scholarship as an opportunity that could have a lasting impact on the beneficiaries and their families, urging the students to justify the confidence reposed in them.
The keynote speaker, Mr Tobi Joseph, a media expert, life coach and corporate businessman, also challenged the beneficiaries to see the scholarship as both an opportunity and a responsibility.
Joseph urged the students to repay the foundation’s investment through hard work, discipline and academic excellence.
He said outstanding performance by the beneficiaries could encourage the foundation to expand the scholarship programme and reach more financially disadvantaged students.
Joseph further advised the beneficiaries to become positive examples capable of inspiring other young people to pursue education despite economic challenges.
