The Presidential Candidate of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), Governor Seyi Makinde, on Monday, September 7, 2026, officially commissioned his Presidential Campaign Office in Abuja as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The commissioning marks a major step in the governor’s presidential campaign and his drive to promote what he describes as a “Reset Nigeria” agenda focused on transparency, accountability, economic development and improved living conditions for Nigerians.
Speaking at the event, Makinde said the office was more than a campaign facility, describing it as a platform where Nigerians could participate in discussions about the country’s future.
He said his campaign would seek to engage Nigerians across different sectors and communities while encouraging them to contribute ideas on how to address the country’s economic and social challenges.
According to him, the “Reset Nigeria” agenda is not about restoring the former fuel subsidy regime but about reforming the petroleum pricing structure to ensure that Nigeria’s crude oil resources provide greater benefits to Nigerians.
Makinde argued that crude oil supplied to local refineries should not be priced as though it were imported from abroad.
He maintained that the benefits of Nigeria’s crude production should be reflected from the point of domestic crude allocation and refining, rather than through unclear interventions at the petrol pump.
The governor also called for greater transparency throughout the petroleum value chain, including crude oil production, domestic allocation, refining, transportation, distribution, taxation and retail margins.
He said Nigerians should be able to understand how petrol prices are determined, how public resources are utilised and who benefits from decisions taken by government.
Makinde said the proposed reset would also involve creating systems in which economic growth translates into tangible improvements in the lives of citizens.
Addressing those who have dismissed his presidential ambition, the governor recalled how some people initially doubted his chances of becoming governor of Oyo State.
He said his eventual victory demonstrated that political expectations should not be based solely on the strength of established political structures.
Makinde argued that the concerns and aspirations of ordinary Nigerians must be taken seriously, including those of traders facing rising costs, farmers struggling with transportation, business owners dealing with high operating expenses and young people searching for opportunities.
He stressed that the “Reset Nigeria” campaign would not be restricted to politicians, but would involve Nigerians in homes, markets, schools, offices, farms, factories and communities.
The governor therefore called on citizens to engage with his campaign, question its proposals, contribute ideas and organise at the grassroots.
He said the newly commissioned campaign office would remain open to Nigerians who believe the country can function better.
Makinde further stated that the objective was to build a Nigeria where government operates transparently, leaders are accountable and the nation’s resources are deployed for the benefit of its citizens.
He concluded by urging Nigerians to join what he described as a collective effort to “Reset Nigeria” ahead of the 2027 elections.
