Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, have arrested four suspected illicit drug dealers during a covert operation in Gaida, Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi, confirmed the arrests in a statement made available to PUNCH Online on Monday.
According to the statement, operatives of the Counter Terrorism Unit based at Dorayi Babba, Gwale Local Government Area, carried out the operation after receiving credible intelligence.
“The suspects were arrested at Gaida, Kumbotso Local Government Area, following credible intelligence and a covert operation by the operatives of the Counter Terrorism Unit, based at Dorayi Babba, Gwale Local Government Area,” the statement partly read.
The suspects were identified as Abubakar Abdullahi, 35; Rabiu Baffa, 25; Aminu Lawan, 35; and Ibrahim Idris, 33, all residents of Gaida.
The command said the operation also led to the recovery of four sachets of Pregabalin 300mg capsules, popularly known as “PG”; dozens of Diazepam tablets, locally called “Fara”; three tubes of Oshin Solution, also known as “Sholisho”; and three big packs and 20 parcels of suspected marijuana.
The State Commandant, NSCDC Kano Command, Mohammed Agalama, cautioned the public, particularly youths, against the illegal sale, distribution and abuse of illicit drugs.
He stressed that drug abuse remained a serious threat to public safety, security and the wellbeing of society, especially among young people.
“After a preliminary investigation by the Corps, the four suspects and the recovered exhibits would be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Kano Command, for further investigation and necessary legal action,” Agalama said.
He also reiterated the commitment of the Kano NSCDC to working with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to tackle drug-related offences and activities capable of threatening peace and security in the state.
Agalama urged residents to continue providing credible information on suspected illicit drug activities, assuring them that such reports would be treated with the highest level of confidentiality.
