The Abia State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old young adult, Ebuka Nwakerindu, for alleged motorcycle theft and recovered three motorcycles, a locally made single-barrel long gun and a 50kg bag containing substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa.
Nwakerindu, a native of Umuokoromiri Village, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State, was arrested on Thursday, September 24, following a coordinated operation by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit at Onitsha Ngwa, Obingwa LGA.
The police stated that the operation was carried out on Wednesday, September 23, following actionable intelligence and the operation was also conducted in line with the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, Wilfred Afolabi, and the Inspector-General of Police’s vision of intelligence-led policing.
The command said that upon sighting the operatives during the raid, Nwakerindu and his accomplices fled the suspected criminal hideout.
However, one locally made single-barrel long gun and a 50kg bag containing substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa were recovered from the scene.
The police further disclosed that investigation led to the arrest of Nwakerindu, adding that three stolen motorcycles were recovered from him, while it alleged that the suspect specialised in the theft and resale of motorcycles.
Meanwhile, they are putting in efforts to apprehend other suspects who fled the scene, while the recovered exhibits remain in police custody and Nwakerindu is expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police reiterated the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven operations, proactive crime prevention and the protection of lives and property across Abia State.
