Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, have reportedly moved their two children to a new school in the United Kingdom following security concerns, British media reported on Monday.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex recently returned to Britain with their seven-year-old son, Prince Archie, and five-year-old daughter, Princess Lilibet. The family is said to be living in the Cotswolds, an area in central England popular with celebrities.
The couple reportedly enrolled their children in a private school, although the name of the institution has not been made public.
According to Hello! Magazine, the distance between the family’s home and the school, as well as heavy traffic along the route, raised concerns about the children’s security.
A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan told the magazine that the decision to change schools was made after discussions with the family’s security team about the practical challenges surrounding their existing arrangements.
The spokesperson said the school change was linked to the practicalities of ensuring the children’s safety.
Harry and Meghan currently rely on private security personnel. However, the prince has reportedly continued to seek police protection for himself and his family from the British government.
The Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec), which is responsible for security arrangements for senior public and royal figures, reportedly met last week to discuss protection for Harry and his family.
The BBC reported that Ravec is expected to carry out a detailed assessment of the security threats facing Harry and Meghan.
Harry’s security arrangements in Britain have been a long-running issue. After stepping down from royal duties in 2020 and moving to the United States, the prince became involved in a legal battle over his entitlement to taxpayer-funded police protection in Britain.
Harry and Meghan no longer serve as working members of the Royal Family, following their decision to step back from official royal duties.
The security discussions come as Prince Harry prepares to mark his 42nd birthday on Tuesday.
