The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested a man, identified as Zayyanu Halilu, for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl inside a vehicle at the Airport Bridge Taxi Park in Abuja.
The police also disclosed that the minor was found to be about three months pregnant following the alleged repeated sexual abuse.
Halilu was arrested on Friday, October 2, 2026, by operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit during a routine patrol of the area.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday.
According to the statement, the officers became suspicious after observing a navy blue Volkswagen with registration number KMC567LQ parked at the taxi park with its windows wound up.
The command said the vehicle was also seen shaking, prompting the officers to approach it and inspect its interior.
The police alleged that the officers opened the vehicle and found Halilu sexually abusing the 12-year-old girl.
The statement read in part, “However, the vehicle was shaking. The officers, suspecting foul play, approached the vehicle and opened it, only to see one Zayyanu Halilu raping a twelve (12) year old minor.”
The suspect was immediately arrested, while the girl was rescued by the police, the command said.
Preliminary investigation, according to the police, further indicated that the alleged abuse had occurred repeatedly, with the suspect allegedly luring the girl to the same location and sexually abusing her inside the vehicle.
The command also alleged that Halilu threatened to harm the girl if she disclosed the abuse to anyone.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had, on several occasions, lured and sexually abused the underaged victim in the said vehicle parked at the same location, with threats to ‘deal with her’ if she reveals the abuse to anyone,” the police stated.
The development took a further disturbing turn when a medical examination allegedly revealed that the victim was approximately three months pregnant.
The police said the girl had been placed under medical care and was undergoing further assessment.
“The victim is currently receiving medical care and assessment, while the suspect remains in Police custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations,” the command added.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and pay closer attention to the whereabouts, safety and welfare of children and wards.
Sanusi also called on residents to report suspicious persons and activities promptly to the police or through the command’s emergency channels.
