Former Imo Governor Rochas Okorocha Arrested

Former Imo State Governor and Senator, Rochas Okorocha, has been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force over allegations of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.

Okorocha was reportedly arrested in Abuja on Monday night but was later released on bail after about an hour of interrogation.

The Imo State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Aniete Iniedu, confirmed the arrest and subsequent release to Channels Television.

According to the police spokesperson, the former governor was directed to return to the Force Headquarters on Tuesday for further questioning as investigations into the allegations continue.

The arrest reportedly followed Okorocha’s failure to honour previous invitations from the police in connection with the ongoing investigation.

He was initially invited to appear at the Force Headquarters on September 2. However, the appointment was rescheduled to September 8 following a request from his lawyers.

Okorocha reportedly failed to honour the rescheduled invitation, a development that preceded his eventual arrest.

The police have continued their investigation into the allegations, while the former governor is expected to cooperate with investigators during further questioning.

No further details about the allegations or the outcome of the investigation were provided in the report.
