Gunmen Kill Police Officer In Plateau

Gunmen have killed a police officer travelling to his duty post in Plateau State, amid continued attacks in parts of the state despite the recent imposition of curfews.
The officer was reportedly riding a motorcycle along the Kwi-Beco road, between Riyom and Barkin Ladi local government areas, when he was attacked at about 7pm on Thursday.
Sources said the officer was heading to his duty post in the Chit area of Heipang District when the assailants killed him and fled with his motorcycle.
The spokesman of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the incident, describing it as disturbing.
Tengwong said the killing raised concerns about the safety of residents in the affected communities, particularly as security personnel deployed to protect them were also vulnerable to attacks.
He condemned the killing and called for urgent measures to address the security challenges confronting communities in the area.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions in Mangu, Bokkos and Barkin Ladi local government areas, where the government recently imposed curfews to contain unrest.
Efforts to obtain comments from the Plateau State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Alabo Alfred, were unsuccessful as he did not respond to inquiries as of press time.
Despite the curfew measures, attacks and killings have reportedly continued in parts of the state.
