“He Went To The Market After Traders Allegedly Assaulted His Wife” — Police Arrest NSCDC Officer Over Gunshots In Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Deputy Superintendent of Corps Onoja Samuel, for allegedly firing gunshots into the air at a market in Kubwa, Abuja, following a dispute involving his wife and some traders.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
According to Adeh, the incident occurred on October 25, 2026, at about 1:50 p.m., when the police received a distress call concerning an unidentified man allegedly firing a pistol at the market.
She explained that operatives attached to the Kubwa Police Division immediately responded to the distress call, disarmed the suspect and took him into custody.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Samuel, an NSCDC officer, allegedly went to the market armed with a pistol after receiving information that some traders had assaulted his wife.
The police said an argument subsequently broke out at the market, during which the officer allegedly discharged his firearm.
“During an argument, he fired shots into the air,” the statement said.
The command disclosed that a CZ pistol and 17 rounds of live 9mm ammunition were recovered from the suspect during the operation.
Adeh confirmed that Samuel remained in police custody while investigations continued, adding that he would be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged personnel of other security agencies operating within the territory to ensure proper coordination with the police before embarking on authorised operations.
Sanusi specifically advised officers of sister security agencies to notify the police divisions responsible for their respective operational areas before carrying out sanctioned operations within the FCT.
The commissioner emphasised the importance of restraint, professionalism and effective inter-agency cooperation in preventing avoidable confrontations and maintaining public safety.
The command also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities or security concerns through its emergency telephone lines, 08032003913 and 08061581938.
