I Don’t Believe In Overpriced Outfits, Says Davido’s Sister Sharon

Sharon Ademefun, the sister of popular Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that she no longer believes in spending excessively on clothes, saying some fashion items are not worth their high prices.
Ademefun shared her views during an appearance on The Fashion Round Table podcast, where she questioned the growing cost of luxury fashion, particularly expensive outfits worn by wedding guests.
According to her, while certain fashion items may justify their prices, she finds it difficult to understand why people should spend thousands of dollars on outfits for social events.
She specifically expressed surprise at the reported cost of some wedding guest dresses, noting that such outfits often come at similar prices despite their differences in design.
“I don’t really believe in buying expensive clothes, me personally. I believe that there are some things that are worth it. When I’m hearing that a wedding guest dress is $10,000, a wedding guest dress, they’re all the same price now,” she said.
The businesswoman also reflected on the expenses associated with her own wedding, revealing that her husband paid $2,000 for her wedding dress, while she took responsibility for the outfits worn by her bridesmaids and hostesses.
According to Ademefun, she had 13 bridesmaids and also paid for the dresses of four or five hostesses who participated in the ceremony.
Despite catering for the outfits of so many people, she disclosed that her total spending on wedding attire remained below $10,000.
She explained that the experience had influenced her approach to fashion and spending, adding that she had become more selective about the items she was willing to pay for.
Ademefun said she had reached a point where she no longer considered excessively expensive clothing a worthwhile investment, stressing that she was no longer prepared to spend heavily on certain fashion items.
She further disclosed that she would turn 40 next year and had made a personal decision not to work directly with any Nigerian fashion designer.
“I just feel like there are certain things that I’m not willing to pay for anymore. So I don’t believe in overly expensive clothes. I’m turning 40 next year, and I’ve made an executive decision, unfortunately, I’m sorry to say this, that I will not be participating with any Nigerian designer directly,” she said.
Her comments highlight her changing attitude towards luxury fashion and the importance she now places on value for money when making clothing purchases.
Although she acknowledged that some items are worth their cost, Ademefun maintained that expensive clothing does not always justify the amount of money spent on it.
