Immigration Officer Killed, Colleague Wounded In Niger State Ambush

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has confirmed the death of one of its personnel and the injury of another in an attack by armed men in Niger State.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, at about 11:30 a.m., when officers attached to the Wawa Control Post were conducting a routine surveillance patrol along the Tunga Taya–Woro axis of the state.

The deceased officer, Assistant Superintendent of Immigration (ASI) I.U. Babangida, was killed during the attack, while his colleague, Inspector A.K. Musa, sustained serious injuries but managed to escape.

Musa is currently receiving medical attention, according to a statement issued on Thursday by the Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi.

The NIS said Babangida had been buried in accordance with Islamic rites, describing him as an officer whose sacrifice and commitment to duty would be honoured.

The Service expressed condolences to the deceased officer’s family, colleagues and loved ones, while wishing the injured personnel a speedy recovery.

It also assured both families of its continued support and assistance during the difficult period.

The immigration service disclosed that it was working with the Niger State Government and relevant security agencies to identify and arrest those responsible for the attack.

It said efforts were ongoing to ensure that the perpetrators were brought to justice.

The NIS reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Nigeria’s borders, insisting that the attack would not deter its personnel from carrying out their duties.
