Imobi Monarch Bags Cultural Ambassador Award In Canada, Receives Royal Honour From Mayor

Daud Olatunji
The King of Imobi, Oba Fatai Olatunji Ademiyewo Balogun, has received a Cultural Ambassador Award in Canada in recognition of his efforts to promote Yoruba culture and preserve indigenous heritage.
The award was presented to the monarch by the Ijebu Descendants Association of Canada, an organisation dedicated to preserving and promoting the cultural identity, traditions and heritage of the Ijebu people in the diaspora.
In a further recognition of his contributions to cultural promotion, Oba Balogun also received a Certificate of Recognition from the Mayor of Haldimand County, Shelley Ann Bentley, and the Member of Provincial Parliament representing Haldimand-Norfolk, Bobbi Ann Brady.
The honours underscore the growing importance of cultural diplomacy and the role of traditional institutions in promoting indigenous identities and strengthening relationships between Nigeria and its international partners.
The recognition also places a spotlight on the contributions of Nigerian traditional rulers and diaspora organisations to sustaining cultural heritage beyond the country’s borders.
Through its activities, the Ijebu Descendants Association of Canada has continued to promote the traditions and identity of the Ijebu people among Nigerians living abroad and the wider Canadian community.
Oba Balogun’s recognition is expected to further draw attention to the rich cultural heritage of the Ijebu people, whose traditions, customs and institutions remain significant elements of Yoruba identity.
Traditional rulers have continued to play important roles in preserving indigenous languages, customs, festivals and historical narratives, particularly as younger generations of Nigerians in the diaspora navigate life in multicultural societies.
The presentation of the Certificate of Recognition by the Haldimand County mayor and the provincial lawmaker also highlights the potential for collaboration between traditional institutions, diaspora associations and public officials in advancing cultural understanding.
