Kano Shuts Nine Private Schools, Warns Others Over Registration Breaches

The Kano State Government has identified 111 private schools for allegedly bypassing regulatory procedures, with nine temporarily shut for failing to meet registration revalidation and recertification requirements.

The affected schools will remain closed for seven days from October 12, 2026, the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Private and Voluntary Institutions Board (KSPVIB), Comrade Baba Abubakar Umar, said during a media parley in Kano.

The schools are Zayyad Academy, Success International Schools, Sunshine International School, Perfect Schools, Al-Fa’iq International College, Mainasara International School, Shubla Academy, Darul Mu’uminat Comprehensive School and Hanan International School.

Umar warned that any school that reopened without the board’s authorisation would face legal action.

He said the enforcement exercise was designed to strengthen regulation and ensure private schools complied with established educational standards.

The executive secretary also cautioned school proprietors against increasing fees without approval, compelling parents to buy uniforms and textbooks exclusively from their schools, and expelling pupils without notifying their parents.

He urged private school operators to renew their licences for the 2026/2027 academic session, noting that existing certificates expired on July 31, 2026.
