The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation has been honoured with the 2026 Pillar of Integrity in Public Service Award by Verbatim Magazine for its commitment to transparency, accountability and ethical governance.
The award was presented to the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the NDIC, Mr Thompson Oludare Sunday, who was represented by the Head of Communication and Public Affairs, Ms Hawwau Gambo, at the 2026 Verbatim Awards held in Abuja.
The event was organised by Verbatim Print & Broadcast Limited in partnership with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.
The recognition followed the NDIC’s emergence as the second overall performer in the 2025 Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard conducted by the ICPC.
The EICS is an integrity assessment framework developed by the anti-corruption commission to evaluate the level of ethical compliance, accountability and anti-corruption practices within Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the Federal Government.
The assessment covers four major areas, namely management culture and structure, financial management systems, administrative systems and anti-corruption initiatives.
Speaking at the ceremony, the ICPC Chairman, Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, represented by the Director, Systems Study and Review Department, Mr Olusegun Adigun, said integrity remained critical to rebuilding public confidence and strengthening national institutions.
Aliyu’s keynote address was titled, “The Power of Integrity in National Development: Strengthening Public Institutions, Restoring Trust and Driving Prosperity.”
Receiving the award on behalf of the NDIC, Gambo commended Verbatim Print & Broadcast Limited for recognising the corporation’s performance based on the ICPC’s independently validated integrity scorecard.
She said the recognition would further motivate the corporation to maintain high standards of transparency, accountability and ethical conduct in carrying out its statutory responsibilities.
Gambo said, “The award is a reflection of our sustained efforts at maintaining the confidence of our stakeholders in the discharge of our mandates.”
She reiterated the NDIC’s commitment to upholding professionalism and ethical governance in the discharge of its responsibilities, including deposit guarantee, bank supervision in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria, failure resolution and bank liquidation.
According to her, the corporation would continue to strengthen its institutional processes as part of efforts to protect depositors, promote confidence in the banking sector and contribute to the stability of Nigeria’s financial system.
The NDIC’s latest recognition comes as the corporation continues to play a key role in safeguarding depositors and supporting confidence in the country’s banking system.
The corporation said the award was not only an affirmation of its achievements but also an incentive to deepen its compliance with standards of professionalism, excellence, transparency and public trust.
