NSCDC Arrests 20-Year-Old With Stolen Electricity Cables

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, has arrested a 20-year-old man suspected of vandalising electricity cables in Dambatta Local Government Area of the state.

The State Commandant, Mohammed Hassan-Agalama, disclosed this at a news conference on Tuesday in Kano.

Hassan-Agalama said the suspect was arrested by operatives of the Dambatta Division at about 4:15 a.m. on October 2, following credible intelligence.

He said the suspect was intercepted while driving a white Volkswagen Golf Wagon with registration number KMC 656 ZJ.

“Following further investigation and a search operation, our operatives recovered four bags filled with aluminium electricity conductor cables concealed in a compound in Dambatta town,” he said.

According to the commandant, the vehicle was allegedly used to transport the vandalised cables.

He identified the recovered conductors as bare stranded aluminium wires, ACRS/AAC type, commonly used for overhead 33KV, 11KV and low-voltage electricity distribution lines.

Hassan-Agalama said the Corps was also tracking two other suspects allegedly linked to the vandalism.

He said legal action would be taken against the suspect after the completion of the investigation.
