The United Traders Forum, Ogun State, has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term and declared its support for Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, in the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.
The traders made their position known at a gathering attended by members of the forum and other political stakeholders in the state.
The development comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with various interest groups beginning to align with candidates and political parties across the country.
Speaking at the event, President of the United Traders Forum, Ogun State, Alhaji Fasiu Ajadi, said the attendance of traders from different ethnic backgrounds was an indication of their support for Adeola.
Ajadi stressed that the traders were not mobilised through financial inducement, claiming that some members voluntarily shut their businesses to attend the gathering and demonstrate their solidarity.
He appealed to Adeola to prioritise the rehabilitation and construction of roads linking major trading communities, particularly Fadama roads.
The traders’ leader also called for the establishment of modern markets in Lafenwa and Olomore, arguing that such infrastructure would boost commercial activities and improve the welfare of traders.
Ajadi further urged members of the forum not to allow political differences to cause division among them, while advising them against selling their votes during elections.
He said members of the forum possessed their Permanent Voter Cards and were prepared to participate actively in the electoral process.
Responding, Adeola thanked the forum and its leadership for the endorsement and support.
The senator announced a ₦100m financial commitment to the forum, comprising ₦50m in grants for traders and another ₦50m to support the event.
Adeola said 1,000 members of the forum would each receive ₦50,000 from the ₦50m earmarked as traders’ grants.
He also assured the traders that their demands for the construction of Fadeka and Fadama roads and the development of modern markets in Lafenwa and Olomore would receive attention.
Adeola expressed appreciation to the traders for their turnout and support, promising continued engagement with the group.
Among those who attended the event were former Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Chief Mrs Salmot Badru; First Iyalode of Awaye Kingdom, Mrs Oloye Tutuola; Women Leader of South Local Government, Alhaja Aishat Faderera; and other members of the United Traders Forum.
