Oyo APC Candidate, Alli Accuses Makinde’s Government of Failing to Prevent Attacks on Wife, Party Candidates

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, has called on security agencies to investigate alleged attacks on his wife and two other party candidates in Ibadan.

Alli urged the state government and security agencies to take urgent steps to prevent political violence and ensure the safety of residents across the state.

The allegations were contained in a statement issued on Thursday and signed by the Director of Alli’s campaign organisation, Bisi Oladele.

According to the statement, Alli’s wife, Mrs Tawakalitu Alli, was allegedly attacked by hoodlums on Wednesday during a programme held at Ibikunle Palace in Ibadan.

The APC candidate also alleged that the party’s Oyo South senatorial candidate, Remi Oseni, and its House of Representatives candidate for Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency, Folake Olunloyo-Oshinlowo, were attacked at separate locations in the city on the same day.

Reacting to the reported incidents, Alli condemned the alleged attacks, describing them as unwarranted and barbaric.

He called on security agencies to investigate the incidents, identify those responsible and ensure that they are prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The APC governorship candidate also called on the Oyo State Government to strengthen security measures to prevent further incidents of political violence.

Alli specifically reminded Governor Seyi Makinde of his responsibility to protect the lives and property of residents, regardless of their political affiliations.

“As the chief security officer of the state, Governor Makinde carries the responsibility to protect all residents, irrespective of their political leanings,” the statement quoted Alli as saying.

He further urged security agencies to ensure that those behind the alleged attacks were brought to justice, stressing that appropriate action would help deter similar incidents in the future.

“The SSACO calls on security agencies to fish out these perpetrators of violence and bring them to book in order to serve justice to the victims and also serve as a deterrent to violence in our dear state,” Alli said.

The allegations have prompted calls from the APC candidate for a thorough investigation and stronger measures to safeguard political actors and other residents in Oyo State.

However, the statement did not indicate whether any arrests had been made in connection with the alleged attacks.
