Police Probe Officers Over Alleged N20,000 Extortion Of Dispatch Rider

The Lagos State Police Command has commenced an investigation after a dispatch rider was allegedly extorted by police officers attached to the Makinde Divisional Headquarters.

The Command said in a statement on Monday that it was aware of a video about the incident and had identified the officers involved.

The development followed a video circulating on social media, which alleged that police officers detained a dispatch rider’s motorcycle and demanded money before releasing it.

The man claimed he eventually paid N20,000 to the officers before his motorcycle was released. The officers were unaware that their interaction was being recorded.

The Command said, in line with the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai, the officers involved had reported at the Command Headquarters.

It added that the officers were being interviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.

“The Lagos State Police Command is aware of the video and has commenced an investigation into the incident.

“The officers involved have been identified as personnel attached to the Makinde Divisional Headquarters.

“In line with the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips, the officers involved have reported at the Command Headquarters and are currently being interviewed as part of the ongoing investigation,” the statement said.

The police assured the public that the investigation would be concluded and appropriate action taken based on its findings.
