Rivers Police Arrest Vigilante Over Alleged Killing, Secret Burial

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested an operative of the Onelga Security and Advisory Committee (OSPAC), Felix Dibia, over the alleged killing and secret burial of a man, Francis Chibuzor Ogwu, in Omoku, headquarters of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of the state.

OSPAC is a local vigilante and community policing outfit operating in parts of Rivers State, including Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni.

The incident reportedly occurred on the night of Thursday, October 1, 2026, when Dibia allegedly accosted Ogwu and another man along a road in Omoku and ordered them to sit on the ground.

While Ogwu reportedly complied, the other man fled the scene.

The vigilante operative allegedly shot Ogwu after the other man ran away.

Dibia was also alleged to have dug a shallow grave and buried Ogwu’s remains before leaving the scene.

The incident later became known in the community, prompting a police investigation.

Confirming the incident on Monday, the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, said the Command was aware of the reported killing.

Kaborlo said Dibia had been arrested and the alleged firearm recovered, while investigation was ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“The suspect has been arrested and the alleged firearm recovered, while investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident,” she said.

She added that no OSPAC operative or any other individual had the lawful authority to unlawfully deprive another person of life.

“The right to life is expressly guaranteed under Section 33 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended),” Kaborlo said.

The police spokesperson said the Command would ensure due process was followed and that the outcome of the investigation would be based on the facts and applicable law.
