“They fined my dad ₦50,000” — Lady recounts family drama over stranded 20-year-old girl

A Nigerian family has reportedly fined a man ₦50,000 for advising his cousin to evict his sister and her husband from a house after the woman allegedly locked his 20-year-old daughter outside in Calabar at 1:30 am.
The incident was shared by a family member who narrated how the young woman travelled from Lagos to visit her aunt but arrived late because of heavy traffic.
According to the account, the 20-year-old called her aunt several times without getting a response. When she eventually reached the house and knocked on the gate, her aunt reportedly came outside but refused to let her in.
The aunt allegedly told the stranded young woman to find a hotel, leaving her crying outside in an unfamiliar city in the middle of the night.
Soldier reportedly rescues stranded 20-year-old
The young woman was eventually helped by a soldier who was returning home and found her crying at the gate. He reportedly offered her somewhere to spend the night.
The following morning, she contacted her father and explained what had happened. Her father reportedly responded by stopping the monthly allowance he sent to his sister and withdrawing financial support for her three children’s school fees.
The decision prompted an emergency family meeting, where relatives allegedly accused the father of being too harsh towards his sister.
Man fined over advice to evict relatives
Frustrated by the family’s reaction, the father sought advice from his cousin’s relative, whose father reportedly owned the house in Calabar.
The man advised him to evict his sister and her husband from the property, arguing that he had built the house himself.
However, the extended family reportedly turned its attention to the adviser, fining him ₦50,000 for allegedly escalating the dispute and offering what they described as “wicked ideas”.
The account has highlighted tensions that can arise when family loyalty, financial support and personal responsibility collide. However, the story’s details have not been independently verified.
